TAKING CARE OF YOUR NEW TATTOO

    • Keep the bandage on the tattoo for two hours after the work is complete (or longer, depending on the tattoo artist’s instructions).
    • Remove the bandage carefully. This will allow your skin to breathe and begin the healing process. Do not rebandage the tattoo.
    • Wash your tattoo with mild antibiotic soap. Gently pat it dry with a washcloth (not a paper towel) taking care not to rub it.
    • Dab a thin layer of “Vita Merfen” ointment on the cleaned area. Continue to lightly apply antibiotic ointment to your tattooed skin for at least 3 times a day for 2 weeks.
    • Expose your healing skin to air as much as possible but avoid prolonged exposure to the sun or tanning.
    • Avoid getting a lot of water on your new tattoo – showers are OK, but no swimming, baths, Jacuzzis or saunas for a 2 weeks.
    • Resist scratching the skin or picking at scabs, no matter how much it itches.
    • Wear clean, loose and comfortable clothing over the area. Your skin should heal in about two weeks.
    • If, after getting your new tattoo, you experience extreme swelling, unbearable itching, excruciating pain, fever, a rash or any other unusual symptoms that may indicate infection or an allergic reaction you can call the studio or drop by to show us what is wrong or go see a doctor.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR PIERCING

    • Wash your hands thoroughly prior to cleaning, or touching on or near your piercing for any reason. Leave it alone except when cleaning. It is not necessary to rotate the jewelry while healing except possibly during cleaning.
    • Exercise during healing is fine, just “listen” to your body.
    • When dealing with external facial and body piercing use “Vita Merfen spary” to clean the piercings. Just spray a little bit of it on the piercing 2-3 times a day. When dealing with facial piercings be careful not to spray it directly on to the eyes, inside the mouth or ears, it is intended for external use only. Instead spray it first on a q-tip and then apply on your skin.
    • For piercings inside the mouth it is recommended to use antiseptic mouthwash for up to 5 times a day, especially after smoking or eating. You can also boil some water and then add half a teaspoon of salt to it. Gargle twice a day.
    • Some piercings are located so that one side is inside the mouth and the other on the outside. You need to apply both methods to clean those piercings.
